Please take the PARENT SURVEY if you have not already! Thank you!
In English 9, you can follow along with our daily work by going to our class website. Once there, you will be able to navigate to the weekly schedule, course overview, and a number of other links. I also have a FOR PARENTS tab where I will link these posts.
We finished this week with getting used to Goodreads.com and how we can use it to track our reading, find book suggestions, and participate in class discussions.
It is quite the challenge to get through our required material when only in-person for 1-2 days a week; however, we are making the most of it. Every freshmen in my class should now have a number of online resources to help continue learning while at home.
Please encourage your children to, first, carve out time to complete their independent reading in. Each week we have 1-2 reading days where students are expected to read for 30 minutes and update their progress on Goodreads.com. If they need help finding something to read, email me and I will do my best to find something they will enjoy.
Secondly, every Wednesday we do grammar work on noredink.com, a self-paced way to improve their grammar and writing, which they can do on their chromebook or phone. It’s obviously not fun, but it is a great tool for them so they can work independently.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me (email would be the most effective way to get in touch). You can also find more information about myself and the school organizations/teams I lead (Wrestling, English Department Europe Trips, and Student Council) by exploring the following link: halter.education.
